I write for and edit magazines. I have also written a book.
I was the inaugural (and to my knowledge, the only) Main Staff Person at McSweeney's, Dave Eggers' seminal literary journal. I am the founding editor-in-chief of the luxury travel magazine Trunk, which won two SPD awards on an editorial budget of approximately $250. I have written about political violence in Kenya for Outside, long-distance relationships for Marie Claire, restaurants in Hong Kong for The Wall Street Journal, and Taylor Momsen for a NYLON cover that was originally printed in Korean. I am the former executive editor at Surface magazine and was a senior editor (my favorite position) at both NYLON/NYLON Guys and Lucky.
My first novel, Smart Girls Like Me, was published by St. Martins Press and received an A- from Entertainment Weekly, which I will go on repeating until the day I die.
I have a bachelor's degree in English from Columbia and most of a bachelor's degree in "New Genres" from the San Francisco Art Institute. I once drove from London to Mongolia in a 1990 Nissan Micra. I prefer dogs to people, people to fish, and the beach to the mountains, though my favorite place in the whole world, besides (a) my own bed and (b) my parents' driveway, is a tiny chalet in the Swiss Alps, in a town called Greich.
I welcome correspondence about future projects, the new series of Homeland, and meeting up for drinks.
